#worldEnvironmentDay 2023

The PHPA-I organized a cleaning campaign to mark the #WorldEnvironmentDay 2023 with the theme #BeatPlasticPollution and also to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen on Monday, June 5, 2023. About 300 employees cleaned the 69-acre Bjimthangkha Township, 3km road from Highway to Township, inhabited areas of the 11km Highway stretch between Dam site and Powerhouse area where, about 8MT (100 sacks) of wastes were collected & disposed to the landfill site. The wastes consisted of plastic bottles, Doma plastic pouches, juice bottles, glass bottles, bubble gum covers, Rajanigandha covers, chips covers, water bottles, etc.

However, the challenge remains that despite regular cleaning campaigns, Zero Waste Hours, sensitizations, and timely garbage collections by PHPA-I, the littering in the township and deliberate dumping of wastes by the road-highway sides by the households located near the roads & by the daily commuters remains a recurring issue which is difficult to monitor & prevent. Therefore, a report had been shared with the designated Dzongkhag authority to enforce the relevant regulations & sanctions accordingly which will act as a deterrent and achieve the sustained clean environment.
